RENEWABLE ENERGY IN THE PHILIPPINES - Being an agricultural country where major crops grown are rice, coconut and sugarcane, Philippines could generate substantial volumes of residues that could be utilized as energy fuel. Data and statistics on these available RE resources obtained from various government agencies give an optimistic picture of RE in the future. Being located just above the equator, the country exhibits a vast potential for various solar energy applications. Likewise, the country has good potential for wind energy since it is situated on the fringes of the Asia Pacific monsoonal belt. The country also has potential hydro and ocean resources is attributable mainly on its archipelagic nature.
