Global demand for energy is growing tremendously while conventional energy sources are limited in supply. This imbalance, coupled with other factors like geopolitics, geographical distribution of fossil fuels and even weather conditions, drive energy prices up. While fossil fuels become depleted, the uptrend in their prices would continue.
Aside from economic implications, the continued utilization of fossil fuels also has detrimental effects on public health and the environment. For environmental and economic reasons, the world is already shifting to renewables. In the Philippines, there is an urgent need to tip the balance of our energy mix in favor of clean, indigenous and non-depletable sources.
Harnessing the energy of the sun, the wind, water in the streams and the oceans, the earth’s heat and even agricultural residues will reduce our dependence on imported fossil fuels and contribute to a cleaner environment while improving our balance of payments & foreign exchange rates.
